Sue and Nigel. Thank you for a wonderful vacation in your lovely, friendly, kind and generous adopted country. Been a long time since we ever met such friendly people---especially you and the Bulic Family.

We miss our time there very much and must make arrangements to return and absolutely to stay at the Bulic Family farmhouse. Great accommodations---big and roomy enough to invite our Friend, his wife and child, from Slovenia and enjoy every minute of it. We found great places to eat , very helpful shop owners, absolutely wonderful fish (eating out and cooking at "home"), little villages out of fairy tale books, fantastic wines and beers, great beach combing, lovely and always helpful people...

Advice: Make the car small, never rush, wave at everyone who looks local, speak in friendly tones, and absorb the leisurely pace. Avoid weekend driving---too many weekenders. And. Oh! Eat with Mladen at his restaurant. Ask Nigel.

We left with great reluctance and must return for a longer stay.

PS: English, Deutsch, Francais, Italiano, and the intriguing local dialect spoken here. And all words say "Welcome. Enjoy yourself. We love life." To that we add: "See y'all in Istria."

Just had a weeks stay in apartment Elsa in the lovely village of Barban, it's in such a great position on the edge of the village such stunning views! Elsa & her family were so friendly and welcoming, although we couldn't speak each others language we managed quite well with sign language. Nigel & Sue are great, and picked us up from and to the airport for a very reasonable price. We decided not to hire a car so Nigel lent us two bicycles which was great for seeing the countryside and we also walked a lot too. We would highly recommend this lovely apartment and we look forward to seeing Nigel & Sue in the future.

Once again, a wonderful holiday!!! What more can we say?! Brilliant to see everyone again, everytime we go over, it gets harder to come away!! If Ryanair would let us, we'd be booked again for next year already!! Lovely people, beautiful surroundings and excellent wine to boot!! We'll be back as soon as we can! Thank you Nigel, Sue, Phil, Anny, Nevenko and of course... Ifan (if that's how you spell it!) XX

Nigel & Sue were great! SO welcoming and helpful. Everything done to make our holiday easier, stress-free and very good value. We had been to Istria before, but had (how could we?) forgotten how lovely it is!

We stayed in apartment Niko for a very memorable 2 weeks in August. Our 2 boys (5&3) loved all the attention from our hosts - wonderful Niko, Milka & Giana- and all the farm-yard activities including tractor rides etc. The little pool was perfect for them and also good for us to cool off in. The cottage is comfortable and well-equipped and the pretty setting very relaxing. Quick & easy to get to nearby beaches and restaurants by car. Our hosts were so welcoming and generous, they felt more like grandparents by the time we left! We will definitely go back! Thanks! Tanya, Avie & boys

We had a wonderful stay at the Bulic farm in June 2009. We felt like old friends within 5 minutes of our arrival meeting Sue & Nigel. The Bulic farm is so much fun. The apartment is very well appointed, and kept extremely clean. The Bulic family went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. Young Marko is especially helpful and loved to show us around the farm, even making sure we had a lesson in cow milking! The Istria area is a fantastic place to visit. Affordable, and the Bulic farm is an ideal base to make daytrips from. Sue & Nigel arranged a day on their friends sailboat out of Pula and it was the highlight of our stay. Don't hesitate to arrange a stay with Sue & Nigel. They are the nicest people, and are very professional. And if you stay at the Bulic farm, make sure you ask Nevenko to play his accordion!

Here we are again entering a nothing but positive report on our holiday. We chose this time to stay at Kod Tereza and can honestly say we found the house to be perfect for our needs in every way.

This year Nigel and Sue were our hosts in every way and arranged for us to have a day on the sea in a friends boat. We had a ball and even had a snorkelling lesson which means we have caught the bug and will hopefully try it again next year! Our son walked the dogs whenever possible even at 7am in the morning with Nigel. They made us feel exceptionally welcome and we hope to return at some point in the future.

We can't highly recommend enough that if you want to see Istria then use this company and you wont be disappointed.

Hazel David and Jonathan.

This was the best holiday we`ve ever had. I managed to arrange flights, move my holidays around at work to get 2 weeks in Istria across Easter. Nigel and Sue have put together a fantastic website that explains everything. I came across this website last year whilst looking for holidays in Scotland. Although a little bit more expensive( flights/hire car) it was worth every penny. To enjoy Istria to the full a hire car is a must. Thankyou to Manuel, and a big thank you to Nigel, Sue and Jana for a list of places to visit. Those we visited were the caves at Festini and Postonja, Brijuni national park, Kamenjak and many other enjoyable places. April is not really a holiday month here but it suited us as a lot of the places were empty and having a glorious 2 weeks of sunshine we often had the whole beach to ourselves. A really good buy before we came was 4 snorkelling sets, and although it was a bit on the cold side, what a fantastic experience to float with shoals of fish in the crystal clear waters, especially at Kamenjak. If you have kids or not a visit to the Green Garden Kart track is a must. We went twice and each time had the place to ourselves. This was the first time I`d driven abroad but after an hour or so on the very quiet roads down to the beach everything was fine. We stayed at the apartment Dorina. A big thank you to Dorina and her family for making us so welcome. The place was clean and tidy and very well furnished.A plate of cakes was waiting on the table for us when we arrived and a very large bottle of wine( which they make themselves) sat in the fridge. Every so often Dorina would bring more cakes and sweets for the children. Krnica is a lovely small village but well equipped with a post office, shop and a couple of bar/restaurants. We are now saving up for our next visit. To Nigel, Sue and Jana-HVALA.

We have just returned from an extremely enjoyable holiday in Istra, staying at Kod Tereza in Glavani.

The house has every facility to make a comfortable stay and more. The house is very spacious and recently restored / renovated to a very high standard (ask Nigel to show you the photographs of the restoration!) and furnished well. There are 2 wood burning stoves for cosy evenings as well as central heating if the temperature drops. Comfy beds, good shower, well fitted kitchen with all mod cons and nice quality equipment.

Nigel & Sue are very easy going, sociable people who seem to have blended into Istrian life very well. They are always on hand to help out with local hints and tips, but equally will leave you in peace if you so wish. The locals are friendly and accommodating and always have time to say hello.

Glavani is a very cute little village, very rural with all the sounds that come with living amongst farms. The cockerels never seem to know what time of day it is and sheep trot up and down the street several times a day with the shepherd. There are rare cattle in the village and some really lovely walks with interesting wildlife, flora and fauna. We saw many birds of prey and heard lots of owls.

Nigel and Sue gave us open access to the outdoor kitchen with traditional Istrian grill and pizza oven. The outdoor kitchen was a real treat when we turned it into a private little restaurant one night and grilled the fish that we bought from the fishmonger who delivers early everyday (£4 for 5 local mackerel). We wish we had known where to buy more local produce as we would have definitely done this, so perhaps this info could be made available on arrival? If nothing else, try the wine from Jana, she works in the office and loves to talk! There are many little shops and supermarkets within easy reach, but do take advantage of the car hire via Manuel, he met us at the airport and it was a smooth handover.

Pula market is lovely, especially the flee market on Saturdays for some unusual souvenirs.

All in all a very memorable holiday with people who treated us like friends from the moment that we arrived.

We definitely recommend Kod Tereza in Glavani! Thank you Nigel, Sue and Jana...we had a lovely holiday!

hello Nigel and Sue. I'm writing to say thank you so much for the most memorable holiday of our life. We stayed in apartment Dorina and she was so helpful. I hope to come back when I am older and I will most certainly book with you guys!!! Where we were staying, there was a beach nearby, which helped a lot as the weather was so hot. You are unlike any other travel agent we've ever had - in a good way! I hope to see more of you in the future.

Nigel met us at the airport and having him arrange our car rental (we can certainly recommend you go through them) we were taken to our apartment. We had chosen apartment Dorina and can honestly say we were not disappointed in any way. Dorina and her family live above and are on hand to give help. We found them to be very hospitable and helpful They both speak English so we found communication no problem.

Croatia is so beautiful and unspoilt and there are so many places to recommend. Here are a few.

Pula for it architecture and shops Rabac for it's quaintness Brunji the summer home for Tito Porec for it's Cathedral and stunning streets and shops Go visit the caves in Slovenia a little drive but so worth it. The National Park at Cape Kamanjak is breathtaking and we swam here in May.

Just ask Nigel and Sue to recommend places they love to help and finally ask them to organise quad bikes We had a blast on them. May was a good time to go as the flowers were in abundance.

We had a fantastic holiday in a country we didn't know much about. We met with nothing but friendliness everywhere we went and can say without doubt that Nigel and Sue are the best hosts we have encountered.

If you want a holiday that is restful or with a taste of adventure then this country and Istria is for you. We are coming back next year so we can do the things we never had time for including horse riding and visiting Venice which is possible from here.

The first impression was above all our expectations. Sue and Nygel truly welcomed us as soon as we got out of our car. The facilities are great, the house has been renovated with taste and everything we needed was available, even fans in the bedrooms, considering the hot temperature we had during that journey. Our hosts were also fantastic guides to help us find the nicest places around and discover local wine and food. They were present when needed but never over doing it. If you want to visit that fantastic area of Croatia, this is the place to stay.

Janice and I have recently returned from our 4th holiday in Istria organised by Istra Zivot. We really feel like part of Glavani village life now and all of the neighbours and restaurant proprieters greet us like old friends. I thoroughly recommend sailing on Ennio's boat,quad-biking and go-karting. Would have had a go at tandem para-gliding but there was no wind. Never mind I may be able to cross it off the "bucket list" next year because we are definitely going again. Recommend using Manuel's Car Hire (through Istra Zivot) for excellent rates and service. See you next year Sue & Nigel. Maybe the pups that are left won't be such a handfull by then.

We have, sadly, just returned from a most fantastic week in Istria. From greeting us at the airport to the final farewell coffees at the airport, Nigel (unfortunately, no Sue as she was in England) was the most fantastic host. We spent the week travelling (on Nigel's recommendations) to beautiful spots; the deserted villages (result of the plague), recently opened caves (really amazing!) and lovely beaches. We would never have visited such places without an insider knowledge of this truly lovely country. Forget 'Lonely Planet'!

I and my five children stayed in Hiza Susanna; a superbly equipped and comfortable house. So, during those April showers (we were rather unlucky with the weather), many a happy hour was spent playing murder in the dark or going out with Nigel and Istra the dog (who had just had some gorgeous gorgeous puppies).

We ALL rate it 10/10, in terms of quality and experience.....and we will be back.....keep those beers on ice, Nigel!

Nigel & Sue welcomed us at Pula airport, made sure everything was ok with the hire car & took us to their home , & looked after us before taking us to our apartment Ucker in barban when it was ready for us. Nigel showed us around Glivani & made us feel really welcome. Evelina & her husband Mladin greeted us & welcomed us to their lovely apartment. What a lovely welcome---the fridge was full of essentials to get us going & nicer people you could not wish to meet. Evelina was a wonderful host so much so that we will be going back to her lovely apartment to see her again & Nigel & Sue who all helped in making our holiday really special.

Well, it's taken a while to get around to actually entering in the guestbook - but I've finally made it! We had the most amazing time on holiday with Sue and Nigel this summer, we arrived on 22nd August and should have departed on the 29th but loved it so much we stayed until the 1st of September! That pretty much says it all! A huge thank you to Sue and Nigel, for giving us a fantastic holiday, and introducing us to many wonderful people, whom I hope we will manage to stay in touch with. I'm pleased to say we will be back!!! Next year - and we'll book a longer stay next time too!!! Much love to all, and should anyone be looking at the site, thinking "shall we, shan't we?" Go for it! You certainly won't be disappointed!

Nigel and Sue are THE best hosts you will ever meet. We stayed in a beautiful apartment in Barban for two weeks in July this year. THIS WAS THE BEST HOLIDAY THAT WE HAVE EVER HAD. The warm welcome we received started from the moment our aeroplane touched the tarmac. Nigel and Sue make sure that your experience of Istria is as wonderful as possible. They show you the best places - places that you would never experience on any boring package holiday. You meet the most wonderful local people who are so warm and welcoming. You experience their way of life, their festivals, their cooking. Words really do not do it justice. You have to go there yourself to get a taste of true Istria life. We had two weeks that didn't feel like a holiday at all. We felt like we had lived there, truly lived there ... and going home was an extremely emotional day for all of us and the people we stayed with because we were leaving some wonderful friends behind. We can truly understand why Nigel and Sue have made Istria their home ... to be honest, we're thinking of moving there ourselves after our holiday. Go to Istria, use Nigel and Sue's holiday apartments ... and you will have the most relaxing, trouble free holiday that you have ever experienced. Cannot wait to go back. Thanks Nigel and Sue, we will definitely be seeing you again very soon. Love to the goats !

Our family came to stay in March for a week and we all agreed it was one of the best holidays we had ever had. Nigel and Sue kicked it off with a great welcome and were ideal hosts throughout. We met local people, drank wine from the farms and ate their home-produced prosciutto. The accommodation was excellent and we found Glavani a great base from which to explore Istria. We even got as far as Venice for the day.

Istra Zivot? Istrian Life! We certainly saw the best of it.

Nigel and Sue are exceptional in their approach. The house, Hiza Sussanah, is totally (not just fully) equipped. We tried hard to find something that wasn't provided for our 9 night stay- and failed abysmally. This included beer in the fridge and the essentials like tea, coffee, bread and milk. Nigel will also show you where to get local, organic produce at less than market prices. (Try Slavko's wine!!!!!!)

A guided tour of the village, with an intro to the locals, was wonderful and made us feel very welcome. Nigel and Sue have built a good knowledge of the area and are more than happy to suggest routes, provide maps and info- in fact anything to make your stay exceptional.

On a five star rating they get 10!!

We will return next year in order to see the places we missed. We did intend going into Slovenia but there is so much to see and do in Istria that we didn't get anywhere near the border!

Hvalla ljepo, Nagel i Sussanah!!

A big thankyou to Nigel and Sue for looking after us with our stay in beautiful Glavani.

We had enjoyed Porec but it was good to do some country living for a change with good food and drink, good scenery and good people to boot !

We are going to take advantage of the Ryanair flights to Pula and go again in the not too distant future as 2 days did not do it justice.

Hi,we have been at Bulic apartment for 1 week and we really enjoy the stay. It was in a natural beautiful town, and the people we met were REALLY nice. We only made one mistake: not to book the apartment for more time (2 weeks at least). Istra (and in general Croatia) is a place that is really worth to visit. Just two words: INCREDIBLE HOLIDAYS. Thanks for everything.

Friends and I just had a most delightful stay with Susan and Nigel. We felt so welcomed and comfortable. We had beautifully furnished rooms and a well stocked kitchen. We've just returned home from a last minute week's stay with a friendly Croatian family in the little farming village of Glavani. This was arranged via the intensely accommodating Nigel and Sue who run the Istra Zivot travel agency in Glavani where they live in an old converted bus.

As our accommodation was B&B, no kitchen, we went out for all our meals, coffees etc. Take a travel kettle if you like a cuppa!

The area is very rural, and beautifully peaceful (apart from the dogs and chickens greeting the dawn!) A car is essential. It might perhaps have been a tad more stimulating to stay in Barban with more going on, though certainly not as peaceful.

Theres plenty to go and see on the Istrian peninsula, and outside the main towns we found the roads good and very quiet.

What a wonderful change not to be constantly hassled by traders at the seaside! We enjoyed swimming off the rocks at Luca Krnica - such a pretty spot through the scented pine trees. All the Istrian "beaches" are pebble or rock, so the water is crystal clear and shelves deeply away from the shore.

We hope you enjoy your visit to Istria

We are just back from our trip to Europe and must say we thoroughly enjoyed our week at Hiza Susanna. We stayed with our two boys (5 and 7) and our Spanish friends Antonio, Eloisa, Lucia (8) and Marina (4). The house was plenty big for 8 of us to spend time together or have our own space. The house is just a wonderful place (spacious, well equipped and comfortable) as is the village of Glavani. The highlight for us was our street football games in the village, one night with several guests of Nigel and Sue and locals. Sue and Nigel are amazing hosts making the stay all the better.

There was plenty to do to keep the kids busy - including beaches, horseback riding, go karting, and even visiting some of the hill towns. Istria is simply beautiful, welcoming and a place where you can easily spend a week without leaving the vicinity of Glavani. Our highlights were the beautiful beaches, Rovinj, the Hill towns, and the Ampitheater in Pula (though Pula itself was not the most beautiful.

A word of advice on the beaches - bring beach shoes. Istrian beaches are rocky and when there are rocks, there are sea urchins. I am now soaking my feet in vinegar to remove the urchin spines which are quite painful. At any rate, the beaches are wonderful.

We certainly enjoyed our visit and were sad to leave. We'd highly recommend Hiza Susanna to anyone (ps its useful to have a car to get around!).

Hiza Suzanna cannot be faulted, nor can the hospitality and attention of Sue & Nigel.

Hiza Suzanna is an old Istrian farmhouse on 3 floors that has been gutted and renovated to a high modern standard.

There is an outside seating area and garden with water feature available. Sue & Nigel live nearby and attended to all of our needs such as arranging car hire, horse riding, joy rides in a small aeroplane. They accompanied us to local (excellent) restaurants and joined us for meals in the house and, using their local contacts, obtained fresh vegetables, wine rakia, etc.

If you enjoy walking, Sue & Nigel are happy to supply their dog, Iskra, who is so loveable and gentle with everybody.

The three weeks we were there passed too quickly and all four of us agreed that we'd had a wonderful time.

I can thoroughly recommend Hiza Suzanna and the property that we stayed at in 2005 (Apartment Uckar) in Barban. if the other properties on Istra-Zivot's books are of comparable standard then have no qualms about booking, but I have to repeat that Hiza Suzanna is the tops.

We are already making plans for a further holiday in 2007.

If you're looking for a comfortable and well-appointed place to stay in Istria, that is conveniently located for short day trips to the entire area, I can recommend Hiza Susanna without reservation. Our group of four enjoyed our stay immensely, including the time spent with Nigel and Sue who are terrific hosts. Among the highlights of the stay was the dinner arranged by Nigel and Sue. Our favorite sites in the area? Pula, of course, but St. Vincent, and all the hilltop walled cities are "musts".

Dear Sue & Nigel. Firstly we would like to say thank you to you for being so friendly and helpful. Farmhouse Bulic was wonderful. It was very spacious and comfortable and we were made so welcome; we were treated like part of the family and were all sad to leave. You were certainly right - the farm was a great place for the kids to stay and they LOVED it. We found Istria to be a very friendly and relaxed place and the old wine and brandy isn't too bad either !!! Emma & Chris
